Fanning Springs, also known as Big Fanning, boasts a unique natural landscape and crystal-clear waters that beckon visitors.

Description:

• Natural Beauty: Big Fanning is nestled within a conical depression, featuring steep sand and limestone banks that add to its charm.
• Spring Pool Dimensions: The spring pool measures an impressive 207 feet from north to south and 144 feet from east to west.
• Depth of the Spring Pool: The depth of the spring pool, measured over the vent, reaches approximately 18 feet.
• Unique Vent Area: The vent area takes on a nearly funnel-like shape with a sand and limestone bottom, issuing from the southeast side of the depression. The main vent emerges horizontally from a small orifice in the limestone, accompanied by multiple small boils in the sandy bottom.
• Clear Waters: Fanning Springs is renowned for its bluish and crystal-clear waters, complemented by native aquatic grasses in much of the shallow spring pool.
• Scenic Surroundings: Cypress and gum trees line both sides of the spring run, creating a picturesque backdrop. Floating walkways and ropes demarcate a designated swimming area within the spring pool.
• River Connection: The spring run flows north briefly before meandering westward for about 450 feet, eventually merging with the tannic Suwannee River.
• Restrictions: Please note that boat traffic from the river is restricted beyond a floating wooden walkway across the spring run.
