Description

Madison Blue Spring is a geological marvel, emerging from the depths of a conical depression. The spring pool presents itself with a unique shape, measuring about 72 feet from north to south and 82 feet from northeast to southwest. Dive into the crystal-clear waters, and you’ll find the pool reaches a depth of 24 feet. The spring’s charm extends to its surroundings, featuring vertical limestone walls that add to the allure.

The spring’s vibrant character shines through its 100-foot-long, swift-flowing spring run, which gracefully merges with the tannic waters of the Withlacoochee River. Interestingly, during our observation in October 2001, there was no visible boil at the spring’s vent. Delve beneath the surface, and you’ll discover an enchanting underwater world, with the entire spring bottom and sides cloaked in dark green algae.

As you explore further, you’ll encounter sandy high ground encircling the spring, rising to approximately 20 feet above the water’s edge. This terrain is adorned with a mix of hardwoods and pines, crisscrossed by numerous dirt pathways, perfect for those who love a bit of hiking.
