Location

Mearson Springs beckon just 9 miles east of Mayo, creating a tranquil sanctuary by the Suwannee River. To begin your journey, head east on US 27 from the intersection of US 27 and SR 51 in Mayo. Travel approximately 6.6 miles until you reach the intersection with CR 251. Take a left onto CR 251, and continue for about 2 miles until the road makes a sharp 90-degree bend northward. Keep moving north on CR 251 for approximately 0.7 miles, and you’ll arrive at a boat landing located at the road’s end. The springs are a mere 0.8 miles downstream from the boat ramp on SR 251.

Mearson Springs are a captivating natural wonder, situated within a cove that stretches from southwest to northeast, encircled by imposing high banks along the southwest edge of the Suwannee River.

• Spring Pool: The spring pool at Mearson Springs is a sight to behold. It features three distinct vents and spans 75 feet from southwest to northeast and 51 feet from southeast to northwest. The largest spring vent is found at the southernmost point, revealing a cavern that opens beneath a limestone shelf. The depth over the largest spring measures approximately 11.8 feet, showcasing a limestone and sand bottom. The spring’s waters are crystal clear with a slight greenish hue, creating a striking contrast with the Suwannee River’s dark waters. While you may encounter thick patches of algae, there’s minimal aquatic vegetation.
