Exploring Rock Bluff Springs

Behold the majesty of Rock Bluff Springs, where a sprawling pool awaits, stretching 250 feet from north to south and 171 feet from east to west. This aqueous haven draws life from a series of vents, with the most prominent vent emanating from a deep vertical limestone fissure located at the pool’s northern extremity. Over the fissure, the depth plunges to 27.8 feet. Gaze into the water to witness its clarity, graced by a delicate greenish tint. The pool’s floor boasts the intricate textures of exposed limestone and sand.

Features and Surroundings

Venture closer to the spring, and you’ll find a smaller circular vent opening, around 20 feet south of the main vent. This opening, measuring about 1.5 feet in diameter, generates a noticeable boil on the pool’s surface due to its discharge. A rock retaining wall frames the northern edge of the pool, where resilient cypress trees sway in harmony with the breeze, both within the pool and along its boundary. As the spring run extends southwest for approximately 750 feet, it meets the Suwannee River from the east, forging a graceful confluence with the river’s flow.

Untold Depths and Subterranean Marvels

Dive into Rock Bluff Springs and unlock its secrets – not only does the spring offer mesmerizing vistas, but it also conceals an intricate underwater cave system that beckons exploration.
